This thumbnail specimen is surely the perfect example of the combination of rarity and aesthetics. From the now famous recent Chinese discovery at Sanguozhuang Pb-Zn mine, Dongchuan District, Kunming, Yunnan this Veszelyite (an extremely rare copper zinc phosphate hydrate hydroxide) crystal spray is like a spiral galaxy. It is undoubtedly small, but is a mineralogical masterpiece. Unusually, for this occurrence, the Veszelyite sits upon Quartz crystals, but this makes it far more spectacular than the usual Hemimorphite. The main swirling spray of curved, serrated, blade-like Veszelyite crystals with their attractive royal blue colour and resinous lustre reach 9 mm in diameter and is perfection. It is mounted on a small acryllic cube for display and handling.
