Detailed information

Dimensions 29 x 38 x 23 mm
Weight 22 g
Locality Sanguozhuang Pb-Zn Mine Sanguozhuang, Dongchuan District Kunming, Yunnan, China
Condition No recorded repairs
This double-sided miniature specimen is a stunning demonstration of how exceptionally well-crystallized the Veszelyite from Sanguozhuang Pb-Zn mine, in Dongchuan District, Kunming, Yunnan, China really is. This mine has, in recent years, produced the world's finest specimens of Veszelyite - copper zinc phosphate hydrate hydroxide and this really is a cracker. The matrix consists of a thin curtain of grey-white minutely botryoidal Hemimorphite upon which a dense coverage of deep, electric blue Veszelyite crystal sprays with a fine resinous to greasy lustre sit on either side. The Veszelyite forms clustered aggregates of sharp bladed crystals in bow-tie shapes, sometimes with a twist in the centre. A few isolated individual crystals show their sword-like form, the largest of which reaches 4.5 mm in length. There is virtually no damage to the Veszelyite around the edges of the specimen making this an extremely rich and high quality piece: colourful, dramatic, and well crystallized.
