A terrific specimen from the Archduke Stephan Collection composed of large, stubby equant Vesuvianite crystals set in a ground-mass of burnt toffee orange polycrystalline Vesuvianite from Eg (Eeg) at Kristiansand, Vest-Agder, Norway. The primary Vesuvianite crystals measure up to 1.7 cm long by 2.0 x 1.5 cm in section. Opaque and very dark brown to black in appearance, under low magnification the prism edges show as translucent greenish-clove brown. The blocky habit of the display crystals along with their colour contrast against the Vesuvianite matrix resulting in an impressive historic specimen.
