Compared to other species of gem Tourmaline Dravite is extremely rare, but a discovery in 2016 at Commander mine, Nadonjukin, nr. Simanjiro, Tanzania changed the dynamic in terms of quality. This beautiful green, gemmy, terminated prismatic Dravite crystal was originally thought to be Chrome Dravite, but it has since been shown that it is vanadium that influences the colour in the Commander mine Dravites. By all accounts these crystals came from one pocket in 2016 and most of the gemmy crystals were in the 1 to 2 cm length range. At 5.4 cm tall, this is an extremely fine crystal from that discovery, but not only that, it has superb colour and a fine glassy appearance. Its colour grades from a gooseberry green at its base upwards to an intense 'tsavorite' green at the tip and its termination is sharp and undamaged. A truly superb gem Dravite, or Vanadian Dravite crystal.
