Siberia is a vast region, but sometimes gem minerals were transported across and out of Russia with little precise context of where they came from. This was especially so in pre-Victorian collecting in Britain, but also elsewhere in Europe in the earliest days of mineralogy. This individual, large thumbnail-sized off-matrix gem crystal of Topaz is really well formed, with great development of faces around its termination and with no obvious visible damage. Its base is a fractured surface which allows it to sit nicely upright for display.
