There are specimens that display the perfect crystal form for a species, but there are also those which during their crystallization rebel, and become far more distinctive. This beautiful pink Kunzite - a variety of Spodumene - is a classic example, having crystallized in a most peculiar, but delightful form. Attempting to look like an evil monster, it fails, and becomes the most gorgeous little creature. Like a gaping mouth with sharp teeth, this Kunzite shows intensely glassy and colourful surfaces which have been naturally hydrothermally etched during its growth process. At 5.7 cm tall it is a miniature specimen but its dramatic appearance really does make it stand out from the crowd. It is from the Gilgit District in Pakistan.
