First described from Daniel mine at Neustädtel in the Schneeberg District, Erzgebirge, Saxony, Germany in the 1870s, the rare and beautiful cobalt carbonate species Spherocobaltite is typically only found in quite small crystals, but their intense cerise colour is usually seen first. This very large miniature specimen is one of the few we have seen from the Type Locality and although the crystals are small they can be seen in many small cavities throughout a massive greyish limestone host rock. A few small sprigs of crystallized Native Copper occur alongside the Spherocobaltite within cavities. Ex Francis Coune Collection.
