Locality
Kranicher Gang, Burgstatt veins Clausthal-Zellerfeld, Goslar Lower Saxony, Germany
Condition
No recorded repairs
Intergrown flattish crystals of Sphalerite form a small plate with a dazzling metallic lustre and minor Quartz attached at both ends. The specimen is from a somewhat obscure locality named Kranicher Gang, which worked the well documented Burgstatt veins close to the town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld in Lower Saxony, Germany. The Sphalerite is iron rich and hence the crystals appear coal-black, but some areas, both on the top and base, grade to almost pure Sphalerite, of a beautiful translucent and tangy citrus yellowish-lime green.
