This fine display specimen of Cornish Sphalerite is from the 20th century discoveries at Wheal Jane mine in Cornwall. Forming a relatively thin plate of chloritic rock matrix upon which a 4 mm wide vein of Quartz is completely covered in glossy black triangular Sphalerite crystals. There is damage to many of the Sphalerite crystals, but their glossy nature and rich crystallized texture make it extremely showy. Besides which, very few of the Sphalerite specimens that came out from the mine escaped without some damage. This is a really fine example and shimmers beautifully as it is rotated under a light, due to the angles at which the crystals have grown. Minor Chalcopyrite is also present amongst the Sphalerite.
