One of the consummate Broken Hill orebody mineral species is Spessartine Garnet frozen in massive Galena. This superb small cabinet specimen displays an abundance of intergrown, well-formed Spessartine crystals with metallic, silver-grey cleavages of Galena, a characteristic and classic combination. The Spessartine crystals are lustrous red-clove brown and measure to 1.2 cm, many with orange-brown internal reflections. I don't know what the availability of such specimens is now down-under, but in the UK they are certainly fairly rare!
