For sheer richness, this Spessartine crystal aggregate is truly phenomenal. Although the Wushan Spessartine mine (not strictly a mine, but a series of pits sunk in search of Spessartine specimens) at Tongbei is world-renowned for stunning crystallized Spessartine specimens, nearly all manifest as scattered individual crystals upon the granite host rock and its associated crystals of Smoky Quartz and Microcline feldspar. This stunning smaller cabinet-sized display specimen is very different, representing an almost pure crystallized bed of intensely orange-red, well-formed crystals, showing superb stepping to their crystal faces and with no obvious damage. Allied to that the crystals are rather glossy and translucent, providing an excellent brightness when illuminated by directional lighting. A world-class crystallized Spessartine - the manganese-dominant garnet.
