The scale and quality of colour and lustre of this classic bipyramidal 'Cumberland-style' Smoky Quartz crystal on Specular Hematite is magnificent. It should be noted from the outset that there is some minor chipping to the main termination on the Quartz crystal, and some of the razor-sharp blades of Specular Hematite are bruised but everything else about this piece is sheer beauty and oozes iconic West Cumbrian iron mines. And so it should, as it was once owned by William .W. Jefferis (1820-1906), no. 8390, with his original label, Ralph Sutcliffe, and Lindsay Greenbank (no. LG.77). At 5.5 cm tall, and almost as wide (5.3 cm), the exceptionally glassy individual Smoky Quartz crystal is a corker, and shows lovely colour zoning too. Ex Stephen Crook Collection.
