There are so many qualities to this large individual Quartz crystal that make it stand out. Firstly, although it has a slight sceptre 'stem', or 'stems', as there are two joined parallel, these are so short as to almost be missed, but its other attributes more than compensate for this. Damage-free (save for a tiny scratch to a secondary termination), and perfectly shaped as a 'stumpy' obliquely-angled bipyramidal crystal, its upper pyramidal faces are recessed with skeletal sunken faces of the 'Fenster' habit. With a lustre and transparency akin to cut glass, its colour is a rich smoky-brown, almost on a par with Alpine Quartz, but with internal flashes of purple Amethyst. Inside, within the skeletal hollows, cloud-like inclusions provide even more character and charm. Even by the standards of Tafelkop in the Goboboseb Mountains this is an exceptional Namibian Quartz. Ex Hettrich Collection, it is thought that his label indicates that it was acquired in 1991.
