Beautifully crystallised Quartz is a Swiss classic and occurs in Alpine fissures throughout its mountainous landscape. It is from this characteristic style of mineralisation we derive the term Alpine as a term to describe this type of mineralisation anywhere in the world. The Göscheneralp is a mountainous region some 40 km east of Interlaken, whose slopes form the Göschen Valley and Lake Göscheneralp. Gem-clear, slightly smoky Quartz crystals cross at ninety degrees on the crest of a massive Quartz matrix, partly coated with small Feldspar crystals. The dominant 4 cm long Quartz crystal, although single, bifurcates at the top resulting in two adjacent pyramidal terminations. The other 3 cm long crystal has a single Dauphin' habit termination. Both sets of Quartz crystals are of gem quality. A superb and well-priced Smoky Quartz from Göscheneralp in Switzerland.
