A most pleasing silky, undulating carpet of sour-apple green Smithsonite completely hiding the underlying light grey andesitic matrix. The Smithsonite forms a thick layer of intergrown mamillary crystals, all with a satin to silky lustre. In transmitted light, the Smithsonite appears a tangy-lime green. This specimen is from the famed 79 Mine in Gila County (formerly Pinal County), Arizona, USA, a compact polymetallic orebody which produced metals such as silver, gold and antimony in addition to lead, copper and zinc. This is a terrific specimen and of stunning colour from this most famous of Arizona localities. Ex Peter Rosewarne collection.
