The mines at Broken Hill in New South Wales, Australia are well-known for their Smithsonite, but specimens typically show quite small, or sparse coverage of Smithsonite crystals. This very rich miniature specimen is a dense aggregate of surprisingly (for Broken Hill) large globular frosted grey-white crystals individually reaching 9 mm across. A small amount of black stalactitic Coronadite can be seen entering the Smithsonite aggregate at one end - an association unique to Broken Hill. This is quite a characterful Smithsonite for Broken Hill and although there is light wear to the surface of a couple of the Smithsonite globules this is still a very rich piece for these famous mines.
