A pure, 1 to 1.5 cm thick bed of cream coloured Smithsonite is coated in slightly darker, beige-coloured stacked lenticular crystals with the classic resinous, to pearlescent lustre for which Smithsonite is renowned. Although not as colourful as some of the Smithsonite from Tsumeb mine, this presents a quite different crystal habit and has the feel of a substantial specimen. With support, this thinner, plate-like specimen, stands up nicely with a good size surface area on display. Individually, the crystals extend to about 7 mm across. Ex Hettrich Collection.
