This small miniature is composed of interconnected, euhedral, deep salmon pinkish-red Smithsonite crystals from the Tsumeb mine in Namibia. The crystals are translucent, yet often with quite transparent faces. Internal planes generate an inner metallic lustre with bright copper coloured reflections. The distinct colour of this lovely specimen suggests the presence of manganese rather than cobalt, so making it the variety Manganoan Smithsonite. A terrific miniature mounted on a square, clear acrylic base.
