Siegenite is a rare cobalt nickel sulphide and beautifully crystallised specimens such as this are remarkably scarce and seldom seen even in good collections. This fine large thumbnail is from the Victoria mine at Littfeld in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany and is composed of equant octahedral crystals to 9 mm across interspersed amongst micro-granular Siegenite, some of which is clearly foliated as banded layers. The Siegenite has a bright metallic lustre and is of a uniform pale bronze-pewter. A magnificent specimen of very finely crystallised Siegenite, mounted on a small clear acrylic base.
