Siderite from Neudorf in the Harz Mountains, Saxony-Anhalt is a 19th century German classic seen in historic collections right around the world. The very best specimens have cubo-octahedral Galena crystals perched upon, or associated with the Siderite, which is why this fine piece is not in the four figure price bracket. It is, nevertheless, still a very fine old-time European Siderite with a thin bed of Quartz crystals providing a nice contrast. The rhombic Siderite crystals present a great dark fudge colour and nice resinous lustre, with just a few of the crystal edges showing slight abrasion. Ex Martin Kershaw Collection.
