The Tsumeb mine is remarkable for many reasons, but one often overlooked is that of common minerals in other mines around the world being scarce or rare at Tsumeb, Gypsum being one. This large miniature is the colourless variety of Gypsum, Selenite, and forms a splendid intergrown cluster of crystals, the largest measuring 6.9 cm tip to tip. Gypsum is rare at Tsumeb and was found in the supergene, 1st Oxidation Zone and surrounding country rock as a component of the dolostone stratigraphy.
