Champion mine worked an Andalusite deposit, operating from 1922 until closing sometime during the 1930s when all ore had been exhausted. This most attractive small miniature comprises of several black metallic Rutile crystals bound together in a matrix of Pyrophyllite, an aluminium silicate hydroxide. The Pyrophyllite forms as tiny spherical rosettes of golden orange acicular crystals. One Rutile crystal, jutting out from one end of the specimen, is double terminated and measures 1.9 cm long. The largest Rutile is 2.5 cm long and is at least half embedded in the Pyrophyllite matrix. Champion mine is located on White Mountain Peak in Mono County, California, USA and this is a good representative crystallised Rutile accompanied with an old typed label.
