The top surface of a small block of massive Galena is almost entirely packed full of translucent cherry-red Rhodonite crystals, some of which are reasonably transparent. This classic combination is instantly recognisable from North mine at Broken Hill, the historic mining district in New South Wales, Australia. The Rhodonite forms as elongated and distorted crystals of up to 9 mm wide which contrast wonderfully with the highly reflective silver cleavage surfaces across the Galena matrix.
