Uchucchacua mine in Oyon Province, Peru. This deep mine works a polymetallic orebody hosted in early Cretaceous limestones with both hydrothermal and metasomatic mineralisation. The translucent Rhodochrosite crystals form complex rhombohedral crystals modified to equant blocky prisms of garnet-like appearance. The faces are either finely striated or display micro-rhombohedral steps. A fabulous Rhodochrosite off-set beautifully by the underlying lustrous Quartz.
