This very pretty classic Alpine 'twisted' Gwindel habit Smoky Quartz crystal has a really excellent deep brown colour and yet maintains excellent transparency through from one side to the other. Its base is a fractured surface where it was removed from host rock, presumably within an alpine cleft, but its main termination around the edges is in excellent condition with just the slightest of chipping or edge wear. Ex Martin Kershaw Collection, no. 277 - its catalogue entry details it as from Col de Talèfre, nr. Chamonix but its accompanying typed index card states Switzerland. Nevertheless, these European Alpine Gwindels are extremely desirable and this one presents the finest rich colour.
