This extremely fine red Quartz specimen, of the variety known as Eisenkiesel, is from Heißer Stein mine in the Wölsendorf Fluorite mining district, Bavaria, Germany. Similar in some respects to the Eisenkiesel specimens known from the West Cumbrian iron mining district in Northern England, the crystals form short, squat, pyramidal crystals with rich, blood-red internal colouring from Hematite inclusions. Individually, the crystals reach about 1 cm across, and are glossy with no obvious damage. In this instance, purple Amethystine Quartz underlies the Eisenkiesel. Ex Hans Englebrecht collection (no. 1666).
