A classic from the Wölsendorf Fluorite Mining District, this Eisenkiesel (a reddish, iron oxide-included variety of Quartz) on Baryte is from the famous Marienschacht mine. The colour of Eisenkiesel can vary from orange-red, through blood-red to a very dark red-brown. This handspecimen features a liberal coverage of short, bipyramidal Quartz crystals encrusting a bed of beige coloured bladed Baryte crystals. The Quartz crystals are translucent to transparent with dominant Smoky interiors, but with small blood-red inclusions typically near each termination. There is some bruising to the Quartz crystals and occasionally all the way through to the underlying blades of Baryte but this is a classic older specimen from Marienschacht mine. The rear of the specimen reveals nicely the internal fan-like bladed aggregates of Baryte and has two labels attached, a number label and a descriptive one. Ex W. Diener Collection (no. 114), Bayreuth.
