This small cabinet specimen of stubby Quartz Amethyst crystals, many with a preferential coating of earthy, creamy tan Calcite is a fine example from the Horní Slavkov mining district in the Czech Republic. Comparing specimens we have, against those shown on Mindat, provides a feeling of both quality and comparative rarity. In this case, only one Amethyst is shown and is of far inferior quality, although the same dusting of Calcite is present. It’s one of those beds of Quartz crystals which tend to only form the terminated pyramidal section of the crystal, with little presence of a prism body. It’s a good Amethyst purple grading from mauve around the edges to a darker, pure purple at the tips of the terminations. The specimen comes with the previous collector’s label.
