This striking alpine Quartz var. Amethyst is a really beautiful example of how good Austrian Amethyst's can be. Recorded simply as from Zillertal in the North Tyrol region of Austria, it is most likely from one of a cluster of Amethyst-producing veins at the head of Zemmbach above Berliner Hütte. At 11.2 cm tall it is a prominent display piece, but requires support to be mounted in its ideal upright position. With glassy, somewhat castellated sides, it is the intense purple tips to the paler Amethystine crystals which jump out at you in dramatic fashion. There is fantastic detail with the stepped terminated pyramidal crystals around the sides of the main crystal, and slightly skeletal main crystal termination. The rear edge of the main crystal prism is missing where it was presumably removed from the cavity, but this is not seen from the display direction and overall it really does look superb, with great shape, fantastic colour, and super size. A really top quality Austrian Amethyst. Ex Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021) collection.
