This matrix-less, small cabinet sized Japan-Law Twinned Quartz is from the Otomezaka mine north of Kofu City in the Kinpuzan mining district of Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. The perfectly developed twin crystal measures 5.0 x 6.8 x 1.5 cm and displays the textbook characteristic flattened tabular form. The photograph clearly shows the two portions of the Japan-Law twin are asymmetric. The Quartz is colourless and mainly transparent, just clouded slightly by a frosted surface. The crystals become a little whiter and translucent as the contact edge is approached, this forming the base of the specimen. A superb Japan Law twin from Japan!
