This large miniature to small cabinet specimen from the Tenke-Fungurume area in the Kolwezi mining district, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is a fascinating example of repeated geochemical alteration and replacement. It comprises Malachite pseudomorphing long bladed Azurite crystals. The Malachite is itself coated, or epimorphed by white to pale blue finely crystallized Quartz, possibly with inclusions of Chrysocolla providing the bluish hue. Wonderfully complex material.
