This fine, old-time Quartz comes from the famous historic mining town of Banská Štiavnica (Schemnitz) in Slovakia. Accompanying it are two very old collection labels, both of which probably date to second half of the 19th century, with the printed display-style German label even linking Schemnitz to Hungary (as Ungarn) showing how old it is. It comes from the superb systematic collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021). Upon its finely crystallized Quartz base rise several distinctive, narrow prismatic crystals of colourless Rock Crystal type Quartz. These crystals reach up to 2.5 cm in length and present a very unusual form, some as almost sceptred crystals, widening upwards from their base before tapering back, but often with three dominant sides, rather than the usual equal six. A fascinating and historically charming matrix-hosted Slovakian Quartz.
