An off-matrix, slightly tapering Quartz crystal with complex Quartz overgrowths from the 400 ft Level of South Crofty mine, between Redruth and Camborne in Cornwall, England. The crystal has an undamaged termination which displays alternating broad and narrow faces and down two adjacent side of the prism has shallow, near-surface inclusions of a sooty black mineral, so darkening these faces. The opposite faces are dusted with powdery cream-white overgrowths of micro-crystalline Quartz. The two dark faces are overgrown with various habits of Quartz crystals up to 1.5 cm long. A fascinating Quartz crystal from South Crofty collected by Alan Dean prior to 1985.
