A magnificent large cabinet specimen of museum quality Pyromorphite overgrowing Baryte from the Les Farges mine at Ussel, Limousin, France. Excellent, highly lustrous oil green crystals of curved prismatic Pyromorphite measuring to 1.4 cm are richly distributed in aggregated areas over intermeshed bladed crystals of white Baryte covering a milky Quartz matrix. The Pyromorphite displays considerable variations in crystal habit ranging from flat pinacoids, hoppered terminations and pointed pyramidal terminations, similar to a Quartz crystal. The diameter of the prisms is up to 5 mm making many look thick and chunky. The Baryte is translucent to opaque forming as curved blades averaging 1.5 to 2.5 cm wide. This is a beautiful specimen from Les Farges, without argument, one of France's premier mineral localities.
