A pleasing small miniature of deep acidic lemon yellow Pyromorphite from Mexico mine at the head of Roughton Gill in Cumbria. Roughton Gill is one of the principle mining areas within the Caldbeck Fells mining district, a 25 square kilometre area north of the beautiful town of Keswick. The Pyromorphite forms translucent hexagonal prisms up to almost 1 cm in length with a highly reflective glassy lustre with some crystals displaying hoppered centres. The matrix is principally Pyromorphite mixed with granular milky vein Quartz and for its size is remarkably heavy. A good example of yellow Pyromorphite from the famous Mexico mine which was last worked in 1868.
