Spain can boast some of the world’s best Pyromorphite localities; this beautiful small cabinet specimen is from the historic El Horcajo mine in Minas de Horcajo, Castile-La Mancha, Spain. Characteristic of specimens from this mine, this is a single mass of intergrown, acicular Pyromorphite crystals with no matrix. The Pyromorphite is a consistent siskin lime green, of vibrant intensity and a most attractive glassy lustre. The lustre across some areas gives a silver sheen to the surfaces. The crystals are densely matted yet form a highly porous crystalline mass, with all the accommodation space necessary for the development of its fine euhedral crystals. Individual prisms range in thickness from fine needles to almost 3 mm and in length, typically 1 to 3 cm.
