Spain is rightly famous for its numerous world-class Pyromorphite localities, but the El Horcajo mine at Minas de Horcajo in Ciudad Real province is right up there amongst the best! Pyromorphite from this mine takes many habits and colours. This specimen has a core of rich, dark chocolate-brown limonite over which rich siskin to acidic apple-green acicular Pyromorphite crystals densely cover every face, including the base! The crystals form either as acicular parallel prisms or tapering acicular crystals gradually diminishing to a needle tip. A beautifully aesthetic and vibrantly coloured Pyromorphite from the El Horcajo mine, Spain and accompanied with a copper-plate handwritten and printed label headed 'Comptoir Central D'Histoire Naturelle, Paris'.
