A substantial and stunning specimen of Pyromorphite from the Wheatley mines area, Phoenixville, Chester Co., Pennsylvania. Recorded simply as Phoenixville, it was unfortunately all too common that specific mine details were not recorded in earlier collections, but this name implies that it is an earlier specimen. Large, well-formed lustrous waxy olive-green to khaki green prismatic crystals of Pyromorphite typical of Wheatley mine and with yellow-green terminations liberally coat and indeed form their own matrix on this large display specimen. The Pyromorphite crystals measure up to 1 cm in length and are richly intergrown over a light coloured country rock. Many of the Pyromorphite crystals display parallel growth and some hopper terminations. A simply stunning Wheatley mines Pyromorphite, iconic in form, and dramatic in size.
