This miniature is a particularly fine example of well crystallised Pyrite from the long since closed Blackdene Mine, County Durham. Famous for its very fine Fluorite, Blackdene also produced a limited number of other species. Bright, metallic brassy-yellow Pyrite has developed as cubic and elongated crystals, all with stepped crystal growth across the faces measuring to 7 mm. Intermixed amongst the crystals is milky-white Calcite, forming occasional small crystals to about 7 mm across.
