For silver species enthusiasts this is a real rarity. Mangani mine at Sumatra, Indonesia was one of the most important precious metal mines in Indonesia, working two gold-silver veins from 1912-1932 and again from 1940 to 1941, but it never recovered after the Second World War. Although a major metal producer locally, mineral specimens are almost never seen nowadays which makes this extremely richly crystallized Polybasite specimen so significant. Abundant platy metallic grey crystals of the rare silver sulphosalt Polybasite reach 7 mm across and are developed freestanding and intergrown over a plate of white Quartz, with some minor Pyrite. Ex Professor Werner Paar collection.
