Housed in a slightly unusual sealed glass jar is what is best described as fragmentary crystals, but the reason for them being sealed is that they contain a mercury, silver, iodine, bromine, chlorine and sulphur-bearing species: Perroudite. Oddly, the label on the lid of the jar states, "PERROUDIT XX Typmaterial! Tsumeb M.-Namibia", but Tsumeb mine is not the Type Locality for Perroudite. However, in 2005, a publication in Neues Jahrbuch für Mineralogie redefining the crystal structure of Perroudite used crystals from Tsumeb mine and that is what we think the previous collector was recording. At Tsumeb mine, Perroudite is extremely rare, and found in association with Arsentsumebite. The contents of this jar appear to be largely green Arsentsumebite and dark blue Azurite, but with several tiny orange-red crystals of Perroudite in there too. For Tsumeb collectors this is certainly one of the rarer species to obtain. Ex Hettrich Collection.
