A thin yet substantial sheet of Native Silver measuring approximately 9 x 5 cm from the mines around the town of Eisleben in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The sheet is attached to a 5 mm thick shard of black shaly matrix, which is folded back against the reverse side of the specimen with a band of Native Silver acting as a hinge. This could be to bend back in line with the plate but at the risk of breaking the points of attachment. The Native Silver plate is less than 1 mm thick but is strong due to its malleability. This displays a mottled surface of black streaked with metallic silver, frequently showing iridescent peacock colours of bronze, blue and mauve. A lovely Native Silver from Eisleben complete with two labels from previous collections.
