A natural, and dare I say attractive specimen of Native Lead from the classic Swedish location of Långban, a prolific location for mineral species. The Native Lead forms a somewhat convex sheet with a curious mushroom like formation at one end and is partly coated on both sides with white, probable, Hydrocerussite and scattered areas of Calcite, plus several areas of vitreous black platy Pyrochroite. Native Lead is far from common to be understated, so making this small cabinet-sized sculptural display piece a most pleasing specimen. Additionally, although no Type Locality is formally designated for Native Lead, it has long been assumed that the first recorded specimens are those discovered at Långban during the late 19th century. It comes with an Academy of Natural Sciences (Philadelphia) label indicating its heritage to the William S. Vaux Collection and provenancing it to Harstig, Wermland, Sweden, but on the back someone (unknown) has declared Langban as the source.
