Often referred to as one of the remotest Gold mines on Earth, I think that is an exaggeration, but it is certainly not easy to reach Mt. Kare mine at Papua New Guinea. Nevertheless, it has produced some spectacular crystallized Native Golds that have thankfully made it to the outside world for all to enjoy. This 7 gram flattened crystallized Native Gold presents remarkable crystallographic detail. In some respects the surface texture is like an ancient inscribed tablet: the crystal surfaces representing a long lost alphabet. The crystals actually form what looks like squashed hoppered crystals. Their form looks slightly rhombic, but is probably a flattened cubo-octahedron, or perhaps a rhombic dodecahedron. A fascinating form of Native Gold. Ex Siber and Siber collection.
