Baia de Arie? in the north western region of Romania was mined for both gold and silver and is also famous for its telluride minerals. This lovely small cabinet specimen displays three areas rich in crystallised Native Gold: two of a buttery golden yellow and the third, a brighter, more brassy gold. The Gold nestles in shallow surface vugs, more like depressions, in a carpet of milky grey micro-crystals of Quartz. The Native Gold's habit in two areas is of small sheets with zig-zagged edges reminiscent of holly leaves whereas the third patch is more a jumble of metal swarf as found around a lathe bad, but in this case Gold swarf! A lovey specimen of Native Gold from Romania.
