This large cabinet-sized specimen of Native Copper from the famous Calumet & Hecla mine at Calumet Township, Houghton Co., Michigan is full of character. Rather than displaying the much sought after crystals of Native Copper, it presents Native Copper in a ropy appearance, with well defined bleached casts of host rock incorporated within. The Native Copper has a distinctive reddish-orange colour due to partial oxidation to Cuprite and greenish copper carbonate, or Malachite, has begun to form too. Ex David Hardman collection, no. 2105.
