A particularly fine miniature of Native Copper from the copper mining area in Houghton County, Michigan, USA. The Native Copper displays several crystal habits including spinel twins, elongated crystals and herringbone structures, many with a naturally sooty black patina over some areas. Where the copper remains exposed, the metal is a copper-tinted milk chocolate brown with a matt lustre and roughened texture. It’s a magnificent crystallised Native Copper displaying multi-layered sub-parallel branches, reminiscent of a Gorgon’s head draped with writhing snakes, but neither venomous or vicious, just beautiful!!! Just as well if it is destined for your collection! A little beauty from the world famous Keweenaw Peninsula of Upper Michigan, referred to as the Upper Peninsular or simply U.P.
