Measuring 4 cm wide, this is a fine miniature of the rare species Monteregianite-(Y) from it type locality at Mont Saint Hilaire (MSH) in the La Vallée-du-Richelieu RCM, just east of Montreal in Québec, Canada. Monteregianite is named for The Monteregian Hills, a linear chain of isolated mountains in Montreal and Montérégie, of which MSH is one. Monteregianite-(Y) is a complex hydrated sodium-potassium-vanadium-calcium silicate which forms white lath-like crystals which compose much of this specimen. Several black needle and pseudo orthorhombic Aegirine crystals are mixed amongst the Monteregianite-(Y) and extend out forming characteristic elongated prisms. A fine example of Monteregianite-(Y) from Poudrette quarry at Mont Saint Hilaire.
