This quite distinctive Mimetite specimen is unique among the many Tsumeb specimens I have seen, in that its oxidized matrix is riddled with small masses of Native Copper. Front on, from a display perspective, the Mimetite crystals are quite unassuming, but look in detail and they are magnificently crystallized, as the most gorgeous, and unusual short, stocky, pyramidally-terminated hexagonal prisms, but with many 'concertinaed' as stepped prisms. Their pale straw-yellow colour is, what I think lowers your guard, but if you concentrate on them they are simply majestic and in general in great, damage-free condition. They sit within a slightly bowl-shaped concave cavity in what looks like a pumice, or dark coloured gossan, but it is in fact a layer of massive greyish Mimetite impregnated with dendritic crystals of Native Copper. For those interested in unusual Tsumeb pieces, this is surely a must see. Ex Kessler Collection.
