Detailed information
Species
Mimetite, var. Campylite, Baryte
Dimensions
40 x 30 x 25
mm
Locality
Dry Gill Mine Caldbeck Fells Cumbria, England
Condition
No recorded repairs
A rich coverage of lemon grading to mustard yellow and lime green Mimetite crystals exhibiting a wet looking lustre. The Mimetite crystal clusters measure to 5 mm in diameter and cover a white Baryte matrix. It's a terrific miniature, great for display. Some of the crystals, primarily around the circumference, show very slight chips, but do not distract at all from the specimen's aesthetic. This specimen dates from the early 1800's and was part of Dr T.B. Wilson's donated collection to the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences, although no such label remains with the specimen.
